Create your first form
Three ways to start a form, what the editor shows you, and how to publish and share it in a few minutes.
Updated 3 November 2026
Every form in Onlyform starts in the same editor, however you begin. This guide walks through the first one: starting it, adding a few questions, previewing it and publishing it.
Pick a starting point
From the dashboard choose New form. You can start three ways, and nothing is locked in by the way you began:
- Create with AI: describe the form you need in a sentence or two, or attach a document, and Onlyform drafts a first version you can edit straight away.
- Choose a template: browse ready-made forms by category, preview one and open it in the editor. The templates gallery is also at onlyform.com/templates.
- Build from scratch: start with a blank canvas, either conversational (one question per screen) or single-page (everything in view).
Add questions
Open the field picker and search for the question type you need: contact and text fields, choices and ratings, dates, files, payments, verification and more. Answer fields are kept visually distinct from content blocks such as headings, text and media, so the structure of the form stays readable in the editor.
Every question has a settings panel: label, description, placeholder, required state and type-specific options. Drag questions to reorder them.
Preview and publish
Use Preview to go through the form as a respondent would, on desktop and mobile widths. Test submissions made from the editor never count towards your response allowance.
When you are happy, publish the form. Publishing gives it a public link and a QR code, and makes the embed options available. You can keep editing a published form; changes go live when you publish again.
What next
- Share a form with a link or QR code
- Add conditional logic so people only see the questions that apply to them
- Connect the responses to Google Sheets, Slack or your own endpoint from the Integrations tab
Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid plan to publish a form?
No. The Free plan has no time limit and no card is required. You get unlimited forms with a monthly response allowance; upgrade only when you need more responses, your own branding or the advanced fields.
Can I switch a form between conversational and single-page later?
Yes. Both modes use the same editor, fields, logic and settings. Convert a published form between them whenever the format stops fitting, without rebuilding it.
